Though we are now in the midst of a new phase of activity near Dow’s Lake (at Carling and Preston) it is worth checking out the activity around this area some 70 years ago…the first shot is entitled “Looking north toward Carling near Preston, showing wartime temporary 5 under construction and Dow’s Lake, September 30, 1941”

The second shot is from a different perspective, and taken a month later, and is entitled: “Looking south east towards Dows’ Lake, wartime temporary no. 5 under construction, October 9, 1941.”  These were of course referring to the temporary buildings constructed in the low land just to the north and west of the lake, just below the steep hill on top of which Sir John Carling Building now stands.
